Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Roundup: The city offers two collections in conjunction with the County. These are usually held in the spring and fall. See calendar for dates and time. The county website will www.cuyahogaswd.org list acceptable items. Note that latex paint is no longer accepted at the HHW roundup. Please see directions for latex paint disposal above.
Computer Roundup: We collect used computers, printers, faxes, cell phones during our Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Roundups. See the city calendar for dates and times. Computers are delivered to E-Scrap Solutions for recycling. All hard drives are erased.
Cooking and Motor Oil Recycling: There is a container behind city hall (southwest side of building). You may dump your used cooking and motor oil in the large container. Do not leave containers. Be sure the oil is not mixed with gasoline or other contaminants as we use this oil to heat our service garage.
Latex Paint: Remove the lid and allow to dry. If there are large quantities of paint, mixing cat litter, sawdust, plaster of paris, oil dry or vermiculite into the paint to speed drying will help. Once dry, the paint can be disposed of with regular trash. Please leave the lid off to let the waste collector know the paint is hardened. Paint cans should not be bagged.
Sharps: For the safety of the drivers, sharps are to be placed in a hard plastic or metal container with a screw on or tightly secured lid and clearly marked "SHARPS". Discard in regular trash, do not recycle these items. Sharps include:
Bulk Items: Items such as furniture, mattresses, etc. can be placed curbside on your regular trash day for pick up by J & J Refuse. You do not need to call for special pick up.
Carpet: It must be cut into 4' lengths or less and tied. Place a curb with your regular trash.
Refrigerators & Appliances: These are picked up by J & J Refuse on regular trash day. Have them out by 7AM and the normal truck will radio for the appliance truck to pick them up. Remove the doors from the refrigerator before placing at the curb. J & J Refuse will empty the Freon at no charge.
Tires are recycled: J & J Refuse will pick up 2 per week per household off the rim. Have them to the curb by 7AM on your regular trash and they will radio for the tire truck to pick them up.
Phone Books: These are recycled through the county program. See the county website for dates. http://www.cuyahogaswd.org/residents/phonerec.htm. Typical locations are the metro parks.
Residential Composting: See Cuyahoga County website for composting ideas. http://www.cuyahogaswd.org/residents/backyard.htm
