Departments

The City of Seven Hills is managed by several key departments. The Directors of these departments are skilled professionals and are supported by a collection of talented, long-serving employees. Feel free to contact each department to assist you with your specific issue.

Senior Advisory Board

Mission Statement

In partnership with the Mayor and City Council, the Seven Hills Senior Advisory Board strives to identify a continuum of services for seniors to enhance the quality of life providing comprehensive and excellent services to all those that live, work, and visit in the City of Seven Hills. To demonstrate a special interest in our senior citizens, which recognizes cultural diversity, is responsive and respectful and promotes the dignity and well being of the individual.

History

  • Early in 2008, I requested consideration of the formation of a Senior Advisory Board and Group (SAB)
  • At the recommendation of Mayor Bentkowski, I contacted several other municipalities regarding their use of such a group
  • Above information and a formal request for the formation of SAB was submitted to City Council in June 2008
  • In 2007 I sent out a survey which asked who would be interested in learning more about SAB
  • 75 residents responded that they would be interested in learning more about SAB
  • In April 2008 the first meeting was held at City Hall to identify people who would be interested in becoming Board Members - 21 people attended
  • 6 residents responded with their bio to be considered for the SAB Board

Membership

  • 6 Board Members will be appointed by Mayor with Senior Coordinator advisement
  • 3 Board Members will be on a 3 year term and 3 Members on a 2 year term, for first rotation only
  • After 1st rotation, all members will be on a 3 year term with 3 appointments staggering every other year

Meetings

  • Time and dates of meetings can be obtained in the City Hall event calendar.
  • Meetings are open to the public in the City Hall Community Room.

Goals

  • Have a continuing awareness and an intelligent response to the expectations, needs and concerns of senior citizens
  • Conduct periodic public meeting to facilitate communication and information between city officials and the senior community
  • To advise, recommend and assist our City officials in the planning, coordinating, facilitating and advocating the appropriate services and assistance as they pertain to the senior community

  • Formulation of Mission Statement
  • Assistance with flu vaccination program
  • Support Yuletide Hunger Program
  • Advisement on Utility Choice packets
  • Volunteer at May Senior Fair and weekly programming
  • Formulation of Adopt and Grandparent, child Program
  • Study "Identify Yourself" Surveys - determine action items
  • Volunteer for Home Days Senior Give-Away donation collections, sign ups and distribution at Home Days
  • Development of Senior Transportation program
  • Development of Senior Call lists
  • Development of Senior Home Visit lists
  • Development of Seven Hills Senior Services flyer
  • Development of Senior page on web site
  • Development of Senior yard maintenance program

Areas of Responsibility

Below are suggested chair positions. Each description serves primarily as a skeleton for how the area might potentially develop-nothing is carved in stone. I am seeking each and every one of you to share your creative efforts to make it become a dynamic approach to enhancing services for our residents. Each chair will be asked to make a brief report at the monthly meeting on the status of their activities.

Programs

  • Identify new programs
  • Work with Chris Matthews on program development

Secretarial

  • Take minutes at monthly meeting
  • Provide copy of minutes to be typed
  • Complete Correspondence if business of Council so dictates

Volunteers

  • Recruit and help orient new volunteers
  • Help define role/scope of activities for volunteers
  • Assign volunteers as tasks become available
  • Set up hospitality/breakfast at monthly meetings

Intergenerational

  • Serve as liaison with schools and "Adopt-a-Grandparent" and "Adopt-a-Grandchild" program
  • Be involved in development of future programming
  • Help with registration for programs

Resources

  • Keep seniors updated on current events/issues by attending Council Meetings, Golden Agers, AARP, Parma Senior Center, Parma Senior Resource Network
  • Bring topics of interest to monthly meetings
  • Collect articles, web site information that can be shared through the bulletin board, newsletter or cable station

Social

  • Call BINGO Games
  • Set up alternate activities for monthly meetings within budget constraints
  • Organize yearly anniversary party- food and entertainment

Informational

  • Schedule speakers and maintain calendar of speakers
  • Confirm speakers before meetings
  • Seek out variety of speakers for monthly meetings

Roles of Council Member

  • Represents the interest of Seven Hills Senior residents.
  • Helps develop focus of Senior Services Department
  • Advocates for policies and legislation affecting Seniors at the State and Federal levels
  • Serves as ambassadors for Senior Services within the City of Seven Hills
  • Develops and recommends possible services and programs for Senior Residents
  • Distributes information concerning Seniors and aging issues
  • Assumes a visible leadership role in volunteering for Senior Activities
  • Sits at head of monthly "Open Meetings" for updates from each committee
